This Portillo's Italian Beef Kit is packed with:

This sandwich kit makes 16 half sandwiches

  • 2.5 lbs (1 bag) of Portillo's famous Italian beef
  • 2 (1-qt bags) of Portillo's signature gravy
  • French bread rolls (16)
  • Oven roasted sweet peppers (8 oz bag)
  • Hot giardiniera (16 oz jar)
Stove top heating instructions
  1. Place entire contents of gravy packets in large sauce pan.
  2. Heat until it reaches 180°.DO NOT BOIL. This takes about 20 minutes.
  3. Open beef pack and separate slices. This creates a more flavorful and tender sandwich.
  4. Add enough slices for 2-3 sandwiches at a time and heat for about 1 minute. Add beef in small increments as needed.
  5. Take temperature of gravy while heating beef. The temperature should stay between 165° and 180° for best results.
French Bread:
  • Place rolls on cookie pan 2" apart and bake at 450° for 5 minutes.
Microwave heating instructions
  1. Place entire contents of gravy bucket in microwave safe bowl and heat for 5 minutes. This includes any solids or spices.
  2. Stir contents and then heat for another 4 minutes while separating the beef slices. The temperature should be 180°. DO NOT BOIL.
  3. Take bowl out of microwave and add enough beef for 2-3 sandwiches and stir in for about a minute. Take temperature as you add beef.
  4. If the temperature falls below 165° remove beef, return to microwave and reheat for 2 minutes.
    5. Food Safety Caution: The beef and gravy in this package must be at 40° or colder upon receiving it.

    Delivery Not As Promised / spoiled food

    UPS delayed delivery date and dry i e melted and food defrosted. Three into trash.

    Horrible customer service

    Package arrived 3 weeks earlier than the date I requested and it was partially thawed. I made 3 calls to customer service and sent 3 emails. I’ve been waiting for 2 weeks for a response and nothing

    Product Was Thawed When Delivered

    Guaranteed 2 day delivery turned into 4 day UPS ground delivery and all products arrived thawed. Had to use beef same day. One pizza tossed in trash due to ingredients spilled out in box. I will not order again since this is the second time Tastes of Chicago did this with an order of mine. Shipped to Tucson AZ.

    What happened to customer service???

    I have ordered from Tastes for many years and this was an extremely bad experience. Ordered pizzas and beef for a friend's birthday and it was 2 days late, melted and inedible. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get anyone on the phone or respond to emails. Finally, after 3 days of being on hold I got through by calling first thing in the morning when they opened. Not much feeling from the person on the phone just said they would replace which they did. I would suggest that they consider using another delivery service other than UPS. The tracking on the second order never updated so I was then in the cycle of trying to call Tastes to see if that order was on the way. Very unreliable...

    A taste of home

    I frequented the Lou’s in Lincolnwood when they were starting out. I love I can order it by mail now, living on the west coast. Each time I get one I remember the good times my family and I had at Lou’s. Portillo’s Italian beefs are just as I remembered them. Fantastic! Nobody comes close to it.
